Amid an ongoing, industry-wide reckoning about newsroom inequity, bias and discrimination, the technologies that most directly undergird journalistic work have avoided serious scrutiny.
This prescient workshop will explore the ways technologies reinforce dominant hierarchies, define the microaggressions and dark patterns in newsroom CMSs and work collaboratively to define the problem space and to envision practicable solutions.
This session is designed for:
- Journalists and technologists already thinking about CMS hierarchies and inequities
- Newsroom leaders working on bias and discrimination across newsroom areas
- Everyone who would like a better understanding of the ways dark patterns entrench and replicate
