Cole Goins is the engagement lead for Journalism + Design at The New School, where he develops programs that democratize the tools of journalism and strengthen local information networks. He is a contributing editor for community engagement to The Oaklandside, and has led trainings, engagement initiatives and events with organizations including the American Press Institute, Poynter, USA TODAY Network, and the Investigative Reporting Workshop at American University. He spent a decade in nonprofit investigative journalism, first as the engagement editor at the Center for Public Integrity, and most recently as the director of community engagement at Reveal from The Center for Investigative Reporting. He earned a degree in journalism from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and currently lives in Berkeley, California.
