Climate Matters in the Newsroom produces free climate reporting resources that help journalists on all beats incorporate climate change into their reporting in ways that are local, immediate, and personal — grounded in the latest science. Our reporting tools are available, free of charge, to anyone interested in telling engaging, local, science-based stories about how climate change is affecting their community, why it matters, and what can be done about it. The materials are produced weekly in English and Spanish for every media market in the U.S., and distributed to a network that includes more than 600 journalists and 900 TV weathercasters. Climate Matters began in 2010 with funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF) as a pilot project for TV meteorologists. In 2017, with a new NSF grant, we began the process of expanding beyond the weathercast to support all journalists interested in reporting climate stories in all media. We also offer free climate reporting workshops and webinars, and coming soon, our Climate Reporting Master Class, a free online program that journalists can engage with on their own schedules.
